Hongkong will open another more 11 direct air routes to China recently, increasing the number to 56. There are currently 45 air routes between Hongkong and mainland China, most of which head to China major cities in east and south China. Flights from Hongkong to the far northeast or vast northwest areas are very few. The opening of the 11 new services will put an end to this situation. The 11 new air routes include five to northeastern China, one to eastern Shandong Province, three to western China, one to southwestern china and one to central China.

A total of 35 airlines will fly to Hong Kong starting from the winter of 2006. There will be no restrictions on the number of flights the airlines can make.
