Guangzhou is a port city for foreign trade and a modern metropolis opening to the outside world. The Guangzhou Fair is held twice a year here. It is also a tourist city.There are more than 150 famed scenes and sights in Guangzhou. The tourist attractions include the Zhenhai Tower, Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall, the Wuxian Taoist Temple, Tomb of the Nanyue King, the Chen Family Temple, the Six-Banyan Monastery, Mt. Baiyun, and Yuexiu Park.

Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall

Located on Dongfeng Rd. M. in downtown Guangzhou, the memorial hall, an octagonal structure 49 meters high, with a floor space of 3,700 square meters, was the office of the Provisional Government in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It was built in 1931 with money raised by overseas Chinese and Guangzhou residents in honor of Dr.Sun,the pioneer of China's bourgeois democratic revolution. Sun Yat-sen was born on November 12, 1866 at Cuiheng Village of Guangdong province.

The building complex is composed of the arch over the gateway, the auditorium and the stoteyed buildings on its eastside and westside.With big vermilion pillars, yellow bricks and sapphire-blue glazed tiles, the complex looks splendid and magnificent. There are 4,700 seats in the spacious auditorium, with is beamless and produces no echo. the interior is decorated with paintings and patterns of strong national features. In front of it there stands the statue of Dr.Sun Yat-sen.

The Six-Banyan Monastery

Located on Liurong Rd. in central Guangzhou, the monastery was built in 537 of the Southern Dynasty (420-589), with Liuzu Hall, Guanyi Hall, and an ancient pagoda 57 meters in height, the tallest in the city of Guangzhou. It is an activity center for Buddhists.

Tomb of the Nanyue King

Discovered in 1983, the Nanyue King Tomb is the earliest large-scale painted stone-chamber tomb ever found in south of the Five Ridges. Located on Xianggang Hill in downtown Guangzhou and close to the International Hotel, Guangdong, it was a tomb of the second king of Nanyue built underground 2,600 years ago, and is the largest tomb in Guangdong Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Buried with the tomb owner in jade shroud are a gold seal and a lot of exquisite jade adornments. More than 1,000 articles have been unearthed from the tomb. It has now become one of the famous museums in the world.

Nanhu National Holiday Resort

One of the 12 national holiday resorts in China, the Nanhu National Holiday Resort covers an area of 15 square kilometers, including the Oriental Amusement Park, the Nanhu Amusement Park, and Dajinzhong Reservoir. There are service facilities like villa blocks, the China Tachi Center, and the Golf Club.

Chen Family Ancestral Temple

Ancestral Temple of The Chen Family is now the largest and best preserved and decorated ancient architecture existing in Guangdong Province and now the site of the Guangdong Folk Art Museum. It was designated as an important cultural relic under the State protection by the state Council in 1986.

This ancestral temple was built between 1890 and 1894 during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing dynasty.It was built with donations of the Chen family then spread in 72 counties in Guangdong province. The temple used to provide lodgings for candidates of the Chen family who came to Guangdong to prepare for imperial examinations in Guangzhou.

Covering an area of 15,000 square meters, the temple, having a rectangular structure as its main building, comprises 19 buildings. It is known for its beautiful decoration, which combines wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, clay sculpture, ash sculpture, brass and iron foundry, grotto, new year ainting and other art forms. The special historical, art and scientific values have made it an important attraction in Guangzhou.

Huaisheng Mosque (Central Guangzhou)
Located on Guangta Lu, Huaisheng Mosque (Huaisheng guangtisi) was the first mosque to be built in China. It currently boasts over 40 prayer mats in Chinese and Arabic dating from the Tang Dynasty to the fall of the feudal empires.

Many Muslims believe a temple was first constructed here in the 7th Century. The Mosque is held in high regard by Muslims today. The Mosque is not usually open to non-Muslims but the building's impressive symmetrical architecture is worth admiring from outside.

Temple of Six Banyan Trees

Situated on Liurong Road, this world famous ancient Buddhist temple was built in 537 in the Liang dynasty during the Southern dynasties (386-581). More than 1460 years ago in the Liang dynasty, Emperor Liangwu ordered the master priest, Tanyu to built Baozhuangyan Temple to store the Buddhist bones brought from Kampuchea. During the Northern Song dynasty, a great writer - Su Shi, on a visit to this temple was attracted by the six banyan trees surrounding it and wrote the inscription "Liu Rong" (Six Banyan Trees).

Baiyun Mountain (Outside Guangzhou)

Located in approximately 15km north of the city, the mountain gains its name by always having clouds surrounding its peak.Baiyun Mountain (Baiyun shan) makes a pleasant half day trip away from the traffic and congestion of Guangzhou. It is part of the Kun Shan Mountain range.

This is a pretty spot with pagodas, monasteries and tea houses dotted about the mountain park. The mountain has some nice scenery and is refreshingly lush and green. It can get busy here, and the Chinese are particularly keen on this mountain but, it is large enough to enable you to lose the crowds. The peak, "Star touching hill" (Moxing Ling) is a three hour walk from the base and affords spectacular views over the surrounding countryside and city. The view at sunset is especially nice.

Xiangjiang Wildlife World

A lively world in Panyu with about 10,000 animals in 300 species from all over the world. Many are rare animals that have never seen before in China. It is divided into vehicle tour area and walking-appreciating area. Here, visitors may stroll in different ecological environments, contacting with the vital nature and wildlife in natural state.

Yuexiu Park

Yuexiu Park covers over 100 hectares and is located in central Guangzhou. Apart from the lakes and landscaped gardens the park is also home to some of the city’s famous sights including Guangzhou’s symbolic Statue of the Five Goats and the Guangzhou Museum.

There are a number of small amusement parks for children within Yuexiu Park including the Journey to the West Amusement Park, which is an entertaining mini-theme park featuring characters from this classic Chinese story.

Guangxiao Temple

The Guangxiao Temple is One of the four famous temples in Guangdong Province, it has a history of 1,500 years. The temple enjoys a very important position in the Buddhist history in China. Many famous monks from home and abroad have come to preach here since the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420). In the temple, there are the Mahavira Hall, Sleeping Buddha statue, bodhi trees and East and West Iron Pagodas.

The site of the Chinese Export Commodities Fairs

Located on Liuhua Road, near Guangzhou Railway Station, the China Hotel and Dongfang Hotel, it enjoys a convenient transportation. The spring (in April) and autumn (in October) fairs have been bolding in Guangzhou since 1957. In 1974, it became a faire site. The unique and large-scale fairs enjoy a high reputation in the world.
